Students Sharing Coalition is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to provide meaningful service-learning experiences to students from a variety of backgrounds. By working with Students Sharing, you will be able to earn hours towards fulfilling your service-learning requirement while at the same time provide hope to your community.

Joining Students Sharing
Students are able to join SSC by phone, via email, or through a club at your school.

Joining by phone: call High School Program Phillip Westry at 410.662.8999 during business hours (Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm). Once you have contacted him, he will schedule an orientation time, which is a mandatory step to be eligible to participate in our service projects. We can tailor your interests and skills to our many opportunities. We can always use extra assistance for our many events.

Joining via email: send us an email at phillip@studentssharing.org. Your e-mail should include your name (first and last), phone number, what school you attend, and the year you will graduate from high school. Once you have contacted us, we can schedule an orientation time or let you know if we're coming to your school.

Joining through your club: If you know your school has a Students Sharing Club, contact the student leader at your school to find out about meeting times and orientations that have been scheduled.

SSC Orientation
To participate in SSC you must complete our mandatory orientation to prepare you for the various service opportunities that are offered through SSC. The orientation can be conducted at your school for you and other interested students, or you may make other arrangements with the Students Sharing staff, who are willing to work with you to find a convenient time for the orientation. In addition to the initial orientation, we provide a preparation and reflection component at all of our projects that sets us apart from many other volunteer experiences. Through service learning, you gain valuable hands-on experience, learn to understand community issues, as well as have an exciting time interacting with other students and community members!

Service Projects
We have several interesting Community Action Projects (CAPs) offered on weekends that provide hands-on experiences for you and your peers. All of our projects take place in Baltimore. We meet at the Students Sharing office and carpool students to each work site. Service activities are available with...

You may also choose to help the Baltimore Community through our Special Events.  Students Sharing Coalition students also develop and work at these annual service events, including a Spaghetti dinner for the Homeless, Halloween for Hunger, Micah House Holiday Party, and a trip to Annapolis where students get the opportunity to speak to state leaders while advocating for the homeless.  Visit our Events page for special event information.

Upcoming CAPs

 September & October Schedule

****You must complete the orientation before you attend a CAP.

Signing up for CAPs
Once you have joined SSC and participated in an orientation, you are free to sign up for any of the service activities we provide. Again, there are three ways to do this.  If you are a Students Sharing club member at your school, you may sign up with your Student Leaders during your meetings.  If there is no club at your school, you may phone or email Phillip Westry to sign up.  In the e-mail or message, include the specific project and date that you would like to serve, your first and last name, and if you are able to drive)! Then, we will get back to you to confirm that you will attend and give you any additional information that you need. Remember space is limited so sign up early!

Halloween for Hunger 2008

This October Students Sharing is gearing up for its seventh annual Halloween for Hunger. At the end of the month our students will notify their neighbors to stock up with canned goods as well as candy. On Halloween we will collect the cans and distribute them to local food pantries. Last year we collected 3.7 tons of food, and we hope to beat that record this year!

To get involved contact Phillip Westry at 410 662 8999.

Special thanks to "Signs by Tomorrow" for their help with this event.

Leadership Opportunities: Student Executive Council
The Student Executive Council (SEC) is a leadership group made up of high school students who are the link between Students Sharing Coalition and the local high schools. Students meet monthly to discuss issues, decide on programs, and channel their efforts to motivate other students to work towards social justice.
